Philosophy is an optional subject at A-level. The syllabus followed is that of AQA:

This specification is designed to enable candidates to:

  • develop a range of transferable skills which can be applied far beyond the study of Philosophy
  • provide candidates with a broad introduction to philosophy.
  • gain a thorough grounding in key philosophical concepts, themes, texts and techniques
  • develop the ability to reason, form their own judgements, express themselves coherently and contribute to the process of debate
  • consider philosophical problems through the study of a key text.

The teaching of Philosophy, and the options chosen from the AQA syllabus, are informed by our commitment to the Catholic tradition.
