This Lent, don’t forget to pray …

In the midst of our hectic schedule, we need always to make time for God.  Teachers are used to planning their lessons and structuring them in a  balanced way. We need to do the same with our whole day, and make sure to make time for Almighty God. A Catholic teacher should be praying for his pupils and for himself.

And when a teacher relaxes and goes to the staffroom to share his triumphs and defeats with his colleagues, he should also think to do the same with his real Master, the Teacher of all mankind, our Lord, who wants to receive his confidences too, and to give him new strength and inspiration.

“Let the men eaten up with activity,” he says, “and who imagine they are able to shake the world with their preaching and other outward works, stop and reflect a moment. It will not be difficult for them to understand that they would be much more useful to the Church and more pleasing to the Lord, not to mention the good example they would give to those around them, if they devoted more time to prayer and to the exercises of the interior life.”
