Time for a structured approach to the problem of the lost boys

It’s time to admit that there is a real problem with young boys who struggle to grow up with insufficient male mentoring. One of the reasons why young men are turning to violence as a way of affirming their identities is that this is what boys usually do if they are not trained by male mentors how to re-channel their physical energy into more positive activities. It’s also time to admit that solutions to this can no longer be improvised. There needs to be a structured response. In the US,  a movement which grew out of the Father Flannigan’s Boystown experience has beeen bearing some positive fruit.  www.boystomen.org

Another thing that needs to happen is that society needs to attract more men into teaching. Has anyone noticed that since the 1960s the education of boys has turned 180 degrees from something that was mainly done by men into something that is mainly done by women? Think about it.
